Some local car, truck dealers say they were not affected by cyberattack

A cyberattack targeting a company that provides software for thousands of auto dealers in the U.S. and Canada has not impacted local vehicle and heavy truck dealers.

The software company, CDK Global of Chicago, was hit by back-to-back cyberattacks Wednesday leading to an outage that has impacted operations.

Diehl Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Butler Township uses different software and was not affected by the attack, an official said.

Hunter Truck of Penn Township also was not affected.

“Hunter Truck has invested in various hardware and software security measures designed at protecting our customers, employees, data and networks from such attacks,” said Eric Pond, Hunter vice president of internet technology. “Through the use of advanced firewalls, next generation anti-virus, managed detection and response software as well as utilizing best practices with regard to data encryption and multi-factor authentication, Hunter Truck is well postured to prevent a cyber security attack.”

Kelly Automotive and Baglier Buick GMC did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Dealers use CDK’s software in handling vehicle sales, financing, insurance and repairs. The company said it serves more than 15,000 dealers across North America.

Prospective buyers have encountered delays at dealerships due to the attack. Some dealers have been forced to fill out vehicle sales orders by hand.
