Philadelphia man charged in Harmony hit-and-run accident

Mouchekh O. Bedhoian, 35, of Philadelphia, has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident on Aug. 7 in Harmony. He is accused of striking a young boy with his vehicle and failing to stop at the scene.

Bedhoian has been charged with careless driving, accidents involving personal injury, accidents involving injury while not licensed, failure to stop and render aid, and failure to notify police of an accident.

The incident occurred at Highland and North Pittsburgh streets in Harmony, when the car — which has been identified by eyewitnesses and security footage as a white sedan — struck the boy as he was riding his bicycle. The sedan then drove off without the driver rendering aid or notifying police. The boy was taken to AHN Wexford, then to UPMC Children’s Hospital with cuts and bruises.

After reviewing security camera footage from nearby Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School, state police traced the vehicle to Avis car rental. Calls to the Seneca Valley School District and to Avis revealed the car was leased to Bedhoian. He was there on behalf of Meteor Education, a company that sells furniture to schools.

According to the police report, an officer called Bedhoian and tried to set up an interview with him in person regarding the accident, only to be told he was on his way back to Philadelphia. When the officer questioned Bedhoian about the accident, he “began getting defensive ... and asked how (he) knew it was him.”

While Bedhoian has yet to be arrested, he has been issued a subpoena by hand delivery. His preliminary arraignment and hearing are scheduled for Oct. 2 before Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
