Starting Monday, Sept. 16, Pennsylvania grocery stores, gas stations, and other retail liquor licensees and beer distributors began selling ready-to-drink cocktails, according to a news release from Gov. Josh Shapiro’s office.

The sales were made possible by state Act 86 of 2024, which Shapiro signed earlier this year. The act created a new permit, which authorizes the sale of pre-mixed spirits-based cocktails ranging from 0.5% alcohol beverage by volume to 12.5% ABV in original containers up to 16 ounces for off-premises consumption, according to the release.

Through Monday morning, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board had received 1,556 permit applications, some of which continue to be reviewed for approval.

Licensees interested in applying for a permit can do so through PLCB+, the agency’s online licensing and regulatory platform.
