Moon’s ground game too much for Seneca Valley football in Raiders’ nonconference loss

JACKSON TWP — Moon football had an offense Seneca Valley just could not keep up with.

Lead by a team-approach running game, nine different Tigers rushed the ball for 277 yards and five rushing touchdowns as Moon (3-1) cruised to a 42-13 nonconference win Friday night over the Raiders on the road at NexTier Bank Stadium.

“It was a nice way nonconference play going into section play,” Moon head coach Ryan Linn said. “It was nice to put things together tonight on both sides of the ball.”

Running back Paul Bronaugh lead the Tigers in rushing yards with 74 yards on eight carries and a touchdown; behind him was Kyden Kulvanish, who rushed for 55 yards on six carries and Naz Brookins with 42 yards on seven carries and a rushing touchdown.

“We pride ourselves as an offensive staff to get as many guys involved as possible,” Linn said. “It keeps the kids engaged, the staff engaged. We want to find unique ways to get the kids the ball, and we use their skill sets very well.”

“They ran a couple different versions of different offenses,” Seneca Valley head coach Ron Butschle said. “They ran the Wing-T offense better than anyone tonight. I just told the kids every game from here on out is a playoff game.”

Seneca Valley (1-3) attempted its own style of ground-and-pound football, but the Tigers’ defense was able to keep the Raiders in check, allowing just 68 rushing yards the entire evening.

The Raiders also completed just four passes the entire game, for a total of 148 yards between quarterbacks Andrew Loebig and Jamen Alwine.

“Listen, they had a great defensive plan,” Butschle said. “They put nine guys in the box and we couldn’t run the ball very well. That’s tough, but we have to come up with answers for that or you’re not going to win games, and that is a very good team.”

It wasn’t until the 3:11 mark of the third quarter when the Raiders got their first points of the evening off a 68-yard touchdown pass from Loebig to Jayden Price, but by that point the Tigers had already score four touchdowns of their own.

The Raiders also fumbled away the ball three times, and a slew of offensive penalties in the first half hindered their chances of establishing a drive.

Moving forward, the Raiders have no plans on abandoning their own running game, which has proven to be its way of doing things, rushing for more than 200 yards the week before.

“(Running) is what we do best,” Butschle said. “When you are down three-plus scores and they are eating the clock up, it’s tough to stick to your plan. Good job by them, and we have a lot of work to do.”
