State pumpkin carving contest open for submissions
Pennsylvania secretary of agriculture Russell Reading is encouraging state residents to get a Pennsylvania-grown pumpkin to carve to enter into the PA Pumpkin Palooza: Where Gourds Go Glam.
Submissions will be accepted Monday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 20, at 11:59 p.m. A panel of gourd-loving expert judges will pick winners in two categories — painted pumpkins and carved pumpkins. The contest has three age groups, each of which will have their own winners; child, ages 11 and under; youth, ages 12 through 17; and adult, ages 18 and up.
Winners will be announced Oct. 31.
