If you’re looking to take in the colors of autumn in Butler County, now’s the perfect time. According to this week’s report from Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the leaves are “peak color” in Butler County through Friday, Oct. 25.

In fact, much of Pennsylvania is at peak fall foliage color, including all of the greater Pittsburgh area.

Some counties along the border with New York, as well as Somerset County, are listed as “starting to fade.”

“Hickories and sugar maples have started to pop with bright gold color, and oaks growing at higher elevations and dryer sites have started to change as well,” according to the full report, which is available at the DCNR website. “Many red maples are still holding on to colorful leaves, continuing to add reds and oranges to the landscape. Blueberry and huckleberry shrubs are giving many upland forest understories a deep red hue.”
