Douglas R. Johnston, 77, of Ellwood City, formerly of Cranberry Township, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024.

Born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 2, 1947, Douglas was the son of the late Ralph W. and Jean Kurtley Johnston Sr.

Douglas is survived by his wife, the former Elaine Meta, whom he married on Feb. 8, 1969. Douglas retired from the finance department at UPMC Passavant in 2014 after 23 years of service. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Cranberry Township. Douglas was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1966 through 1968. An avid Steelers fan, Douglas enjoyed gardening but mostly he enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Elaine, Douglas is survived by his sons, Douglas R. and Tabatha Johnston Jr. of Butler and Gregory M. and Jessica Johnston of Ellwood City; seven grandchildren, Gabbie, Jakob, Emilee, Jayson, Ethan, Madison and Kaylee; three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Evy and Cody; a brother, Dennis and Linda Johnston of Bellview; a sister-in-law, Donna and Len Zak of Fort Worth, Texas; and his four fur kids, Bubba, Buddy, Winston and Max.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Jeffrey Johnston; and a grandson, Cody Johnston.

JOHNSTON — As per his wishes, funeral services were private for Douglas R. Johnston, who died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made in Doug's name to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org or Three Oaks Hospice, 4075 William Flynn Highway, Allison Park, PA 15101.
