Maria Dowd
Maria E. Dowd, of Harmony, went to her eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024.
Born Jan. 6, 1955, in County Armagh, Ireland, Maria was the youngest daughter of the late Phelim and Elizabeth O’Hare.
Maria emigrated from Ireland to Canada at age 17. It was there she met “her” Tommy. After marrying in 1975, Maria moved to Tommy’s hometown of Pittsburgh where they built their life together.
In her 30s, Maria earned her U.S. citizenship, which she took great pride in. She equally celebrated her Irish heritage and her American citizenship.
Maria was an extremely successful real estate broker for over 35 years. One of her greatest achievements was founding RE/Max Alliance in Zelienople which she proudly owned and operated from 2005 until her retirement in January of 2024.
In her free time, Maria enjoyed reading, listening to Irish music, baking with her grandchildren and beach trips. She loved cheering on her beloved Armagh Gaelic football team and was thrilled when they won the All-Ireland Championship this year.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 49 years, Tom Dowd; her children, Michelle (Brad) Tresky, Kevin Dowd, Deirdre Dowd, Katie (Brendan) Dowd Dusette and Ryan (Danielle) Dowd; her beloved grandchildren, Kaelyn, Ciara, Liam, Meghan, Keagan, Maggie, Declan, Reagan and Mac; and her sister, Phyllis (Eamon) Grant. She also will be remembered by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and treasured friends.
In addition to her mother and father, Maria was preceded in death by her brothers, Brian and Jeff O’Hare; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary Dowd; and her brother-in-law, Jack Dowd.
“When you need me, just whisper my name in your heart, I will be there.”
