Carson Mahan was among the top 34,000 students in the country to enter the competition.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic scholarship program for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.

Mahan entered the competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Commended students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
