A New Castle man was given a prison sentence and ordered to repay $5,639 for breaking into a Butler County store and stealing cigarettes in 2022.

Troy D. Hockenberry, 42, was sentenced Thursday in Common Pleas Court to two concurrent sentences of 18 to 36 months in prison followed by 24 months of probation after pleading guilty to felony burglary charges in two cases. His sentence included paying restitution of $3,278 and $2,361 to Last Minute Mart in Portersville.

State police filed the charges following burglaries at the store on June 28 and Sept. 6.

On Sept. 6, police responded to the store and found the glass front door smashed and a trail of cigarettes leading from the store to the parking lot.

Surveillance footage showed two suspects being dropped off at the gas station in a Dodge Ram truck, which was later seen by police traveling through Mahoning Township, Lawrence County. A trooper pulled the truck over and discovered Hockenberry to be a passenger in the vehicle.

A search of the truck yielded items worn by the burglars, according to police.

Police said a search of Hockenberry’s residence yielded red sneakers with white soles, and other clothing he was seen wearing in surveillance footage.

Hockenberry is facing a burglary charge following a similar cigarette theft in Lawrence County in September 2022 and several other burglary charges in Lawrence County.
