Man tased, arrested at Cranberry apartment complex
A Cranberry Township man was arrested at a township apartment complex, accused of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after refusing to leave at the request of building officials.
Police were dispatched to Meeder Flats on Strand Road at 4:48 p.m. on Dec. 11 after receiving a call about a man who would not comply to a request by complex management to leave the grounds after exhibiting “erratic behavior” and attempting to open car doors in the lot.
Police arrived at the location to find Derek James Cowan, 33, near one of the entrances to the building. They found him to be “incoherent” and “increasingly aggravated,” according to a police report.
When officers attempted to follow Cowan, he began throwing punches. After a short struggle, Cowan was tased and placed under arrest.
He was sent to UPMC Passavant hospital for a mental health evaluation and to have the taser probes removed.
Cowan is awaiting a preliminary hearing. No additional information was available.
