Zelienople hosts Reindeer Run

Almost 200 area runners and walkers honored Aiden Lutz and earned scholarships by participating in the annual Reindeer Run 5K, 1-mile and half-mile races on Saturday, Dec. 21, in Zelienople.

A Reindeer Run was held in Zelienople on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The event offered a festive blend of fitness and community spirit, with distances suitable for all ages and abilities, including a 5K, 1-mile and half-mile races. Runners started at the Masonic Hall on East Beaver Street before their route through the streets of Zelienople.

The event also featured an auction of themed holiday baskets donated by local businesses and community members, and homemade food was available to participants.

The Reindeer Run, organized by Joella Baker, is a fundraiser for her organization, Get Fit Families, which offers camps, youth programs and triathlon training. Baker said the money raised through the fun runs she organizes throughout the year, including the Reindeer Run, helps provide “scholarships” to Get Fit Families summer camps and training programs. Four youth scholarships of $250 each will be awarded for the Get Fit Families Summer Triathlon and Running Camps to the top boys and girls in the 12 and younger and 13 to 18 age groups.

Part of the proceeds will go toward a bench in Alameda Park, which will be a memorial to the late-Aiden Lutz, the Butler 15-year-old who died on Oct. 22, 2023, after being struck in a vehicle hit-and-run.
