Cranberry man charged with assaulting, threatening wife

A Cranberry Township man was charged with assaulting and threating to kill his wife.

Derek Neil Hays, 34, was arrested Dec. 20 and charged with two misdemeanors of simple assault and making terroristic threats, according to Cranberry Township police.

According to the affidavit, police responded to the Wingate by Wyndham hotel at 210 Executive Drive where Hays’ wife told the police he had thrown her to the ground multiple times and pressed her face into the carpet. The wife then told police Hays began to choke her, and told her he was going to kill her if she left or tried to get help.

Police said Hays’ wife suffered abrasions to her left elbow and forearm, as well as bruising on the sides of her face. The affidavit also said she had neck and throat pain.

Hays is awaiting a preliminary hearing with District Judge Kevin Flaherty.
