State police open hiring cycle for new cadets and trainees

State police have opened a new hiring cycle for cadets and liquor enforcement officer trainees, and a college degree is no longer required.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements and pass a written exam before taking further steps, which include a polygraph test, background check, physical readiness test, medical screening and psychological evaluation. A high school diploma or GED certificate is mandatory.

Prospective cadets will undergo 28 weeks of training while learning law enforcement skills. They will then earn $66,911 annually upon promotion to trooper. Liquor enforcement officer trainees receive 16 weeks of training and initially earn $50,950 annually, with a pay increase upon promotion.

Cadet applications are due by March 31 and liquor enforcement trainee applications are due by April 30 via the commonwealth’s employment website.
