One of Saxonburg’s most prominent local businesses is continuing to branch out beyond its regular grocery sales.

Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market has partnered with Grist House Craft Brewery to open a new taproom at 270 W. Water St.

A grand opening for what will be the third location of the Pittsburgh-based brewpub is set for Saturday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.

“This is another opportunity for a small business to continue to be successful, and it’s super localized,” said Doug Sprankle, whose family also owns two other Sprankle’s locations in neighboring Armstrong County.

Sprankle’s already subleases about 35% of its Saxonburg store for skill games, a sushi bar and a bakery, according to Sprankle.

But in addition to serving drinks, the taproom will also feature authentic Korean-style food from Pocha by Kye-Won, which has served guests in the past at both Sprankle’s and Grist House’s original location in Millvale.

Grist House held a successful pop-up beer event at Sprankle’s in late 2023, which prompted the idea to continue the relationship.

“They (Sprankle’s management) offered us an opportunity to actually stay, so we happily agreed,” said Christie Massari, Grist House’s marketing manager. “It just really took off from there.”

Renovations to the new space include an eight-seat bar, an attached heated patio and another separate room that will store the beer kegs.

“We renovated a little bit and put some bathrooms in place rather than using the grocery store facilities,” added Massari.

Last year, the brewery opened the Grist House Beer Crib located off Route 8. It’s given the brand positive name recognition ahead of the new opening.

“We’ve grown in Butler County just by having the beer crib here for the last year,” Massari said. “Our one year anniversary for that location is actually coming up, but I know a lot of people are excited to have another option.”

The new location will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday.
