Supervisors approve new day care, zoning ordinance amendments

CRANBERRY TWP — At a regular meeting on Thursday, March 6, supervisors approved a conditional use application for a new day care center and two zoning ordinance amendments following public hearings on all three matters.

C&M Play Studio, a popular day care in Allegheny County, received approval to expand into a 15,730-square-foot space at 3120 Unionville Road in the Cranberry Business Park.

The business will share the building with Johnson Controls, a fire protection services company. No land development was required for the expansion.

Plans for the day care include a fenced-in outdoor play area with safety bollards for up to 250 children, along with an indoor gymnasium. The facility is set to serve children up to three years old.

Supervisors also approved changes to the township’s multistory, multiple-family dwelling ordinance.

The updates restrict where traditional apartment buildings can be built and encourage mixed-use development. Additionally, the ordinance now requires apartment buildings to have access to signalized intersections for improved safety.

In response to concerns about compliance with the state’s ACRE Act, supervisors approved an update to the township’s timber harvesting regulations.

The new ordinance ensures compliance with state law while maintaining buffer zones of 25 feet from green spaces and 50 feet from adjacent homes.
