Closer David Bednar has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis after a bumpy start to the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bednar, a Mars graduate, has pitched in three of the Pirates’ five games this season and has been tagged with a pair of losses and two blown saves. He currently owns a 27.00 ERA, turning in just one inning of work on the mound.
Despite posting a 10.13 ERA during the spring, Bednar made Pittsburgh’s roster as the opening day closer. Bednar had a 5.77 ERA in 62 appearances last season.
Bednar’s option cleared the way for right-handed pitcher Thomas Harrington, the club’s No. 3 prospect, to start Tuesday night against the Rays.
