During the month of April, blood donors may receive more than just the joy of giving.

Vitalant is hosting the “Full Hearts, Full Carts” grocery giveaway throughout the remainder of the month. All donors who give blood, platelets or plasma between April 1 and 30, will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of two $10,000 gift cards.

According to a release, donors of all types are needed to help patients of all blood types. The need is greatest for type O, the most transfused and most compatible when a patient’s type is not immediately known.

Blood drives in the area include, but are not limited to, one on Thursday, April 10 at the Butler Eagle, 514 W. Wayne St., Butler; one on April 30 at North Catholic High School, 1617 Route 228 in Cranberry Township; and one on April 30 at the Robert M. Smith Student Center, Slippery Rock University.

A blood drive in honor of Corey Comperatore will be hosted on April 12 and 13 at Laube Hall, 115 Community Park Road, Freeport. Participants will be automatically entered into the giveaway.

On or around May 8, two winners will be randomly selected in a drawing to receive a $10,000 prepaid gift card of their choice.
