Commissioners award Marion Township reservoir bid

The county commissioners on Tuesday, April 22, addressed infrastructure and recreation projects, including the Marion Township water reservoir.

A $501,000 contract was awarded to Hiles Excavating of Chicora to demolish the existing reservoir and replace it with a 110,000 gallon stainless steel tank.

The project is being fully funded by Community Development Block Grants and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, said Wendy Leslie, CDBG coordinator.

Hiles submitted the lower of two bids that were opened April 15. The other bid was $638,409.

Leslie said the current reservoir is an old, leaky inground block structure.

Other business

The White Bridge in Evans City will be repaved this summer. The commissioners awarded a $28,980 contract to resurface the bridge to Voelker Paving of Butler. The project is expected to be completed by July 30.

Commissioners agreed to advertise for bids to renovate SEBCO Pool in Jefferson Township.

Lance Welliver, parks and recreation director, said the county has secured three grants totaling just over $1 million for the project, which includes new mechanical systems, mechanical building, pool heater, liner, deck and possibly a water slide tower.

The work will be done by May 2026 and won’t interfere with this year’s or next year’s swimming season, he said.
