Thiel College

Thiel College continues to expand academic opportunities, highlighted by its campus-based Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, positioning its students for success in one of the nation’s most vital and rapidly growing industries.

Designed to blend academic rigor with practical experience, the nursing program combines classroom instruction with clinical training at regional hospitals and healthcare facilities. Students benefit from hands-on experience early in their academic journey. It includes access to a cutting-edge simulation laboratory, enhancing their preparation for real-world healthcare environments.

“The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a natural extension of Thiel College’s mission to develop leaders ready to meet the needs of today’s world,” said Susan Traverso, Ph.D., Thiel College president. “Whether in the emergency room, the boardroom, the classroom or the community, Thiel graduates are empowered to lead.”

The nursing program reflects Thiel’s broader strategy of introducing in-demand academic programs that are aligned with current workforce needs. Alongside nursing, Thiel College recently launched new undergraduate majors in communications media and healthcare administration. These programs, along with the college’s established strengths in areas like accounting, education, and exercise science, offer students a wide array of opportunities to pursue personal and professional goals.

Complementing these undergraduate offerings are Thiel College’s robust graduate programs in business administration, physician assistant studies and speech-language pathology. These programs reflect the college’s dedication to fostering advanced education opportunities for students pursuing leadership roles and specialized careers.

The business administration program equips students with the tools to excel in organizational leadership, while the physician assistant and speech-language pathology programs address critical shortages in healthcare fields.

“My experience was nothing short of amazing,” said speech-language pathology graduate Nicole Plassio, M.S., ’21. “I’m so grateful to go to a school that provided me with an excellent education, as well as the opportunity to gain hands-on experience.”

Thiel College’s investment in academic innovation is yielding tangible results. Total enrollment has increased by 12.7% since 2021, defying the national trend of declining college attendance. The growth is fueled by new program offerings, an emphasis on student-centered education and a welcoming campus community in Western Pennsylvania.

Healthcare remains one of the fastest-growing fields in the country, and Thiel College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program addresses a critical need for well-prepared, compassionate healthcare professionals. Through a curriculum that emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and clinical practice, nursing students graduate ready to make an immediate impact in hospitals, clinics and community health settings.

The college’s commitment to student success is further demonstrated by significant investments in campus infrastructure. Over the past five years, Thiel has dedicated more than $40 million to facility improvements, academic space upgrades, athletic enhancements and campuswide technology expansions. These efforts create an environment where academic excellence and personal development thrive.
