Two Butler County-based historical societies received more than $13,000 from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, according to a Friday announcement from the commission.

The Butler County Historical Society received $8,000 and Historic Harmony Inc. received $5,100 through the cultural and historical support grants.

The goal of the Cultural and Historical Support Grant program is to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museum community by supporting the general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies that are not supported by other state agency funding programs, according to the announcement.

Grants are awarded on a formula based on a percentage of the organization’s annual operating budget.
