A Greenville man is facing multiple charges after police say he charged for services on Facebook Marketplace that he failed to deliver.

Dennis Diane Clark Jr., 44, was charged Nov. 22 with theft by deception and receiving stolen property after multiple incidents of accepting payment for custom-built furniture that he did not deliver, according to the affidavit.

He is being held in Butler County Prison

Cranberry Township Police received a call on Nov. 22 regarding custom-built furniture that allegedly had been paid for but not delivered and the seller had become unresponsive.

The alleged victim advised police that they had met Clark at the Walmart in Cranberry Township on Nov. 1 after seeing an advertisement for custom-built furniture on Facebook Marketplace. According to police, the person reported paying Clark $310 in advance for a furniture piece and was told that Clark would be in touch about pickup once the furniture was completed.

Police said they were advised that Clark never delivered the promised item and eventually stopped responding.

On the same day, police received a call about Clark from someone else who had responded to the same Facebook advertisement but had some concerns that it could be a scam when Clark asked to meet this person at the Cranberry Township Walmart to get a $550 payment in advance for some custom furniture.

According to the criminal complaint, it was discovered that Clark had received payment from several others in the Pittsburgh area and had not delivered any items.

An undercover officer acting as the second caller contacted Clark and confirmed the meeting at Walmart, where Clark arrived at the set time and attempted to collect $550 from the undercover officer, according to the affidavit. Clark was arrested at the scene.

Upon further investigation and reaching out to other departments in the area, police found that Clark had received multiple complaints and had two active arrest warrants in Crawford County charging the same type of thefts.

Clark was not able to post bail and remains in custody while he awaits his preliminary hearing on Dec 6.
