Woman taken to hospital after late Tuesday crash in Jefferson Township

An 80-year-old woman was injured Tuesday, Jan. 28, when she was involved in a two-vehicle car crash that happened just before midnight on Freeport Road in Jefferson Township.

State police said a Kia Optima being driven by Roberta Grondwalksi was traveling northwest on Freeport Road, and crashed into a Honda CR-V that did not yield to a stop sign and was making a left turn onto Freeport Road from Caldwell Drive.

According to a crash report, the Kia Optima, driven by 91-year-old Donald Loomis, of Butler, struck the Honda on its right side, sending both vehicles off the roadway. Police said the airbags in both vehicles deployed.

Everyone — the two passengers of the Kia and the two of the Honda — was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Grondwalski was transported by Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital to be treated for an injury to her right ankle and foot, police said.

Everyone else was uninjured.
